The first Chicago term, "Urban Term", occurred February 2 to May 21, 1971. It was the first program of IMPACT, a change in the college curriculum which allowed for increased experiential and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. The 10 1/2 week Urban Term allowed a select number of students to live in Chicago's Northwest side and combine field experiences at organizations such as Northwest Community Organization and the Division Street YMCA, with academic study for credit.
