Two unofficial traditions arose around the class spirit demonstrations. The earliest was painting the fountain in front of Old Main (a memorial to the class of 1916) in class colors. This right was reserved for the Junior class on the eve of Booster Day (a celebration of student activities similar to today's Cornerstone Day). However, scraps often arose as other classes vied in the dark of the night to "steal" the fountain by repainting it in their class colors. After several incidents including broken bones and bruised muscles, the fountain was removed from campus.
