These days, most North Central College students would probably identify themselves as Cardinals and their song as the Alma Mater, but, prior to the Roaring Twenties, students identified themselves by their graduating classes. Each class had its own colors, motto, song, and cheer and students defended their class honor through a series of organized contests, as well as unofficial traditions. This pennant shows the colors of the Class of 1923. Pennants, jackets, sweaters, pillows, and ribbons in class colors were all common demonstrations of class "spirit". In the late 1920s, this tradition was discontinued in favor of cardinal and white as North Central College's colors.
